F. B. Chambers .084 Wireless Standard Radio
F.B. Chambers & Co., according to their catalog, began making wireless equipment in 1905. The Chambers company, according to an excellent article by Ludwell Sibley in the August 1997 issue of Radio Age, was probably the first commercial maker of wireless equipment in Philadelphia. The set pictured is the F. B. .084 Wireless Standard Time Set. It was first manufactured in 1913 and came as a crystal set or, as is pictured here, with the optional spherical audion. The set came with a unique locking drawer that could hold spare parts. The F. B. .084 Wireless Standard Time Set was pitched to jewelers and watchmakers. At noon or 10 PM the jeweler could tune the set to the time sent from Washington DC and accurately set their clocks and watches. I know of only one other Wireless Standard Time Set that exists and would appreciate any information on the Chambers company. If anyone has any Chambers catalogues or advertising they would sell or Photostat I sure would appreciate it. Also, I am on the lookout for Chambers wireless parts and pieces.
