Big Ben Four Unit Radio
Big Ben Four Unit Radio From the UK. The manufacturer was Stockall, Marples & Co. of West Dulwich, London - see Volume 1, page 8 Of Ian Sanders book Tickling the Crystal. It appears that you can use anywhere from one to all four units to make a radio. You can use a crystal detector or a valve (tube) as a detector. The far left unit with the coils has two plug in coils; one coil is movable and the other fixed. (See bottom picture for another view of this unit. The coils say "Gambrell Bros Ltd" on them. There is a 80-500 pf. variable capacitor on this first unit. The variable cap says it was made in the UK. The next unit to the right has a crystal detector, which says "Big Ben" on it. In the back there is a plug called "plug A". (There is also a plug that says "B" which is not being used.) The third unit has a R valve in the front and a plug in unit that says "tickler & condenser". The far right unit has another R valve and a LF (audio) transformer plugged in the back. The far left unit is called a "2" unit and the other three are "3" units. I have no idea if I have them plugged in correctly.
