| DX Homebrew Crystal Radio | DX Homebrew Crystal Radio. I made this radio in 2011 primarily from 1920s parts. It was made to receive distant radio station. So far I have heard stations as far as 500 mile away. It use no power from batteries and is not plugged in the wall. It needs a long antenna and a good ground. Although I could hear stations with a good horn speaker if I had my ear a foot away from the speaker, I usually use sound powered headphones and a matching transformer. I adjust the volume by moving the right coil away from the other two coils. It is tuned by turning the two variable capacitors on the front of the set and adjusting the coupling of the 3 coils on the top of it. I have used a wave trap (back left side) because one local station hogs the air waves.
