Loewe OE333 Tube Radio Receiver
The Loewe OE333 is an unusual radio receiver. It is a one tube radio that is really a three tube radio. (OE stands for "Orts-Empfanger" or local receiver.) The tube used in each is the 3NF which is really three tubes in one glass envelope. These sets were made for England and Germany in the mid to late 1920s. The radio itself is not much more than a on-off switch, a holder for tuning coils and a variable condenser; the major components are inside the 3NF tube. The 3NF could be considered the first integrated circuit. The 3NF includes three triode tubes, 2 capacitors and 5 resistors inside the outer glass envelope. Each resistor and capacitor is also enclosed inside a glass case. The 3NF tube was developed by Manfred Von Ardenne. The set pictured was from England and includes a box it came in.
