Harry Cox Very Large Induction Coil 1902
Harry Cox Very Large Induction Coil 1902 Used for Wireless Transmissions or X-Ray. Marconi in the very early years when he developed ways to transmit messages experimented with induction coils like this one. He may have used Harry Cox induction coils before he made his own. This one is 29 inches wide and 15 inches deep. The coil is 8 inches in diameter and 17 inches long. It weighs something like 70 lbs. The part on the far right is a mercury interrupter used to activate the coil and create the sparks. One of the pictures compares this coil to a small one sitting on top of the Harry Cox coil.
The label on the coil says it was used for wireless transmissions as well as X-ray. Sadly Harry Cox died in 1908 from the effects of demonstrating the use of X-rays too many times on himself.
